The theme of Colonial Elegance and Indian Heritage inspired this award-winning Vanki, a harmonious blend of tradition and artistry. Drawing from the majestic pillars of Chettinad architecture, the design mirrors the Mogappu—the grand entrances that symbolize the opulence of Chettinad homes. Central to the piece are intricate parrot motifs crafted using the traditional Nakas technique, adorned with a vibrant ruby, lush Russian emeralds, and lustrous pearls, evoking a sense of timeless grace. The floral motifs, inspired by the Art Nouveau era, flow elegantly through the design, brought to life with vibrant Plique-à-jour enameling—a delicate stained-glass effect hand-crafted to perfection.
The plique a jour enameling is handdone by me using Luxon enamel colours. Winning a national award for this design is a proud moment, highlighting the fusion of cultural legacy and innovative craftsmanship woven into this exquisite piece.
